Like most people, I struggle to get out of bed in the mornings. Its dark, its cold and the thought of putting even my leg out of the duvet is a bit of a grind. Here I’ve put together some tips on how to get motivated in the morning during the winter months:
Tips I use that help me jump out of bed in the mornings with a positive mind:
Get rid of the SNOOZE! It only prolongs the inevitable.
You can see a list of the best tunes to wake up to here; Studies say these are the songs that will help you leap out of bed because of they start off gentle and build up to a strong beat. My personal favourite is Avicii ‘Wake me up’, yes, fitting hey; but it works for me. I love listening to music whilst I get ready. Make a ‘Morning’ playlist of your favourite tunes to lift your mood.
Try setting your alarm to an up-tempo tune which makes you want to dance, instead of gentle music.
The cold… I set my heating to come on half an hour before my alarm goes off for about 40 minutes so its warm enough to take the chill out of the air. I find one of the main reasons I don’t want to get out of bed is because of the cold. So if you jump straight in the shower in the mornings, its warm and you don’t have to do the sprint to the bathroom, (I think we’ve all done it). The house stays lovely and warm until you are showered and dressed.
Set the heating to come in just before you get up so the air is warm whilst you get ready.
I prefer to workout in the mornings, in the Summer it’s EASY but in Winter I really need the extra motivation. So once my up-tempo alarm has gone off I jump straight into my gym wear. I find if I have my gym clothes laid out ready then I’m more likely to work out. If I have to hunt around to find it, it seems so much more of an effort, so try deciding what you are going to wear and have it in view for when you wake up.
Have your outfit of the day ready, plan everything down to your shoes and accessories. Standing in front of your wardrobe debating what to wear always seems so difficult to me.
After I work out I like to take supplements so before I go to bed I make sure they are ready when I go into the kitchen in the morning, my powders and shakers are all waiting so I don’t have to fuss around washing them or getting them out of the cupboard. I also fill up my Hydr8 water bottle so I know I’m having my 2 litres of water a day.
Have your breakfast ingredients out ready, this will help save you time and stop you skipping it altogether. If it’s from the fridge, you can stick a post-it note to your glass or bowl to prompt you. You could always write yourself a positive note, guarantee it will make you smile.
