My New Home And Creating A Space I Love

I’ve always had an idea of the perfect living space, and over the years in various homes, I’ve tried to create this idea of what I think is perfection. A little help maybe from images on Pinterest and Instagram! I’m a sucker for cosiness, but I love a contemporary home. I can’t stand clutter, everything needs to be packed away and in its place. Stuff piled up everywhere just makes me feel claustrophobic.

It not been a quick process by any means, but now I’m in a home I love, it’s helped me to create his homely, happy place. I love plants, not only do they purify the air, but they bring life to your home, so I have one in each room. Its actually become a bit of an obsession as I seem to have a love for palm print. I recently bought some gorgeous prints from Desenio, their wall art is beautiful. I have a few prints from there dotted around.

THE BEDROOM

I’m all about the crisp white, almost sterile feel of a bedroom, I love white crisp sheets; even though I fake tan and it’s hell! Yep, my washing pile is never-ending. White furniture; Thank you Ikea; I don’t know where I’d be without my Alex draws. My makeup desk is also from Ikea, along with the chair which I just throw a faux fur blanket over to make it look a little more ‘Insta’. Not forgetting a huge fluffy rug so when you get out of bed and your feet touch the floor they are in snug heaven.  All finished off with as many fairy lights as possible, statement wall art and a few candles. P.s I have an ottoman bed, the best invention EVER for space saving. Homebase do under the bed tubs for organising your ‘where the hell am I going to put this’ stuff. Under the bed, it goes.

THE HALLWAY

I love this hallway. When I say I live in in a flat, people walk in for the first time and have a surprised look on their face. You come through the front door to a shoe rack area; Shoes are a no go in my home, they stay at the front door or you are not coming in, Sorry.  Turn to your right up to a wide flight of stairs with a hand bannister and a ceiling that seems to go on forever, it leads to the first landing which is home to Spike, he’s the first of the larger houseplants. He is sat on the landing near a window with a few other plants that sit on the window sill. The window is about 10 ft high, daylight floods in from it and has the most amazing views of the sea and horizon. You then have the master bedroom and then on from that, a toilet. The next flight of stairs goes up to the second bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/lounge area.

THE LOUNGE

This is the cosy room. I don’t LOVE the colours in this room, but I’m working with what I have. It’s cream, gold and browns; Yes, it sounds kinda vile, but it works. The sofa is a 4 seater corner sofa which has a footstool that you can extend the size with or use as a footrest. At the moment it’s resided in the corner of the room, where I’m currently sat writing this post. My most recent purchase is a large cream rug from Homebase. I’ve wanted a large fluffy rug for the longest time but my last home didn’t have space for one. I find myself sat on the floor more often now than the sofa and it’s just so soft and cosy.

It also may have something to do with the excessive amount of cushions that are stacked upon it. 19 isn’t too many is it? There IS room to sit, you just may get swallowed up by some of them. They look nice though. Somewhere near to my sofa I always keep two blankets, one faux fur and the other fleecy, so in the evening you can really zone out in comfort.

The furniture is all from eBay, the Corona set. I’m not a fan of mismatch furniture so this is a simple and affordable set. I have 4 pieces of the collection in the lounge, a bookshelf, tv unit, coffee table and sideboard dresser. The room is very minimal again with a plant, fairy lights, an overspill of my tropical obsession in the form of pineapples, and also candles…lots of them.

THE KITCHEN

By far my most favourite kitchen of all. The size is, perfect. My last piece of Corona furniture, which is a 6ft solid wood dining table fits in like it was made for the space. No sucking yourself in to manoeuvre past the chairs, or having to rearrange them to cater for guests, it just fits perfectly with miles of room to walk around it. I usually love to have a vase of flowers on top, but today its abundance of fruit; I’m trying to be healthy after 10 tons of chocolate over Chrismas. The worktops are home to the most important of appliances; my two coffee machines, Yes, two, I have a coffee problem and, I’m not afraid to admit it. I have a toaster, but purely because it matches my kettle and bin, I NEVER use it. I’d always been off the idea of an open plan kitchen lounge because of the cooking smells drifting in and clinging to the sofa, but I’ve not noticed tbh. I just wack the extractor fan on high and job done.

THE BATHROOM

Yes, Yes, Yes! I have wanted an overhead shower. forever. I literally could stand under it all day; It’s beautiful. I don’t even mind risking getting my hair wet to stand under it. Ok, so there is a handheld showerhead as well so when you just want to wash your hair or rinse the bath. There is also no annoying dangly plug, it’s one of those push to close and release types. You just need to be careful you don’t press it by mistake because before you know it you’ll be sat there like a fish flapping in a puddle of water. The next thing I love in my bathroom is the heated towel rails; getting out of the bath or shower to a nice warm town is bliss, total bliss. Talking of bliss, I recently bought a new bath mat, it’s cream and of course fluffy, with gold thread in it. It’s a little extra but it looks nice and my feet are SO grateful for it. I never thought bathrooms could be so exciting…

THE SUN TERRACE

Where I will be spending most of my spare time the Summer; this is where you will find me. Going from a house with a garden to a flat with potentially no outdoor space was always at the back of my mind. But I didn’t need to worry, this one had the outdoor space; not just a balcony that you can’t even fit a chair on, an actual balcony, one that’s big enough for ALL my garden furniture, my 10 pot plants AND the bbq. The bonus, it’s south facing so the sun will be there all day long. If you didn’t already know, I frickin love Summer, give me sun and heat any day and I’m at my happiest.
